God's Work in Our World
The story of Christianity deeply affects every believer in Jesus Christ. The history of the Christian faith affects how we read the Bible. It affects how we view our government. It affects how we worship. It is an exciting story about ordinary people that God used in extraordinary ways, and it’s a story that every Christian should know. Using the book/video resource, Christian History Made Easy we will get an overview of this fascinating and important story, from the early days of the church to the early days of the Church in America. Almost 2,000 years of church history in 9 weeks? YES! Why is it important? Because it shows us how God’s faithful dealings with His people in the Bible continue in the ongoing life and work of Christ in our world.
This adult/youth class will be taught in the Annex by Chad Berry, Jonathan Guin, and Keith Watson.
Reading the Psalms
The book of Psalms, often referred to as the Psalter, has supplied to believers some of their best-loved Bible passages. It is a collection of 150 poems that express a wide variety of emotions, including: love and adoration toward God, sorrow over sin, dependence on God in desperate circumstances, the battle of fear and trust, walking with God even when the way seems dark, thankfulness for God’s care, devotion to the word of God, and confidence in the eventual triumph of God’s purposes for the world. In this class we will see these themes expressed in nine different categories of Psalms and will give both an overview of the book and some practical tools for personal reading and study.
This class is for all adults and youth and will be taught by Phil Bishop, Jonathan Clayton, Charlie Monroe, and Mark Quay in the Fellowship Hall.
