Promises of Peace
Promises of Peace
This past Sunday we looked at Psalm 85 as a reminder of God’s desire to be our peace. Most scholars believe the historical context of this psalm is the return of God’s people back to their land after 70 years in exile. Part of the reason for this belief is how well the content of this psalm lines up with content in the book of Isaiah that is written for those returning from exile. Below are five of my favorite promises in Isaiah from God to his people, promises they can rely on when their trust is in in him:
Isaiah 26:3-4: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD God is an everlasting rock.”
Isaiah 32:17-18: “And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.”
Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:17: “When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them.”
Isaiah 43:2-3: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”
