Does God Hear My Prayer?

Does God Hear My Prayer?

At times we all wonder if God hears when we pray, especially when we don’t seem to see anything happening. The Psalms are a great place to turn when we experience this, for they are filled with prayers asking God to hear and respond. Fortunately they also offer wonderful reassurance that God does hear when we pray. Below are four of my favorite Psalms verses that remind us that God does hear his children when they pray:

Psalm 28:6-7
Blessed be the LORD! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

Psalm 34:17-18
When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saved the crushed in spirit.

Psalm 55:16-17
But I call to God, and the LORD will save me. Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice.

Psalm 116:1-2
I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

May we remember that we can only have confidence in God the Father to hear and respond to our prayers when we are trusting in Christ’s death and resurrection on our behalf, through which we find forgiveness of sin and reconciliation to God. It is only then that both God the Son and God the Spirit are interceding on our behalf as we pray (Romans 8:26-27, 33-35).
